Introduction to Portals
Portals offer a comprehensive solution for organizations to manage course enrollments and student activities effectively. Creating a branded portal for an organization within an LMS (Learning Management System) can be a powerful tool for managing courses and facilitating learning experiences. Empowering organizations to purchase seats in bulk and handling student management internally, Portals streamline the learning process and enhance the overall training experience for teams and organizations.
Here's a guide to help you understand how Portals are used in an LMS:
-
Understanding Portals : Portals are customized interfaces within an LMS that allow organizations to create a branded experience for their users. This includes features such as customized logos, colors, and layouts that reflect the organization's branding.
-
Course Management : Within the Portal, organizations can view and manage the courses available to them.
-
Student Management: Portals also enable organizations to manage their own students within the system. This includes enrolling students in courses, tracking their progress, and generating reports on their learning outcomes.
-
Branding and Customization : One of the key features of Portals is the ability to customize the interface to match the organization's branding. This helps create a cohesive and professional learning environment that reflects the organization's identity.
-
Access Control : Portals often incorporate access control features to regulate the number of authorized users who can view and interact with the content. This includes allotting seat limits, access expiry, and controlling access to specific content such as courses, classes, learning paths, and memberships.
-
Communication Tools : Portals feature communication tools like email messaging systems or announcements to enhance collaboration and interaction among students and instructors.
-
Sub-Portals: Portals allow for the creation of sub-portals within a single parent portal. This hierarchical structure enables organizations to manage sets of users more effectively by dividing them into smaller groups or departments, each within its own dedicated portal.
-
User Management: Users can exist in multiple portals as Portal Admins and Learners, giving organizations the flexibility to assign users to different portals as needed. This ensures that users have access to the appropriate resources and courses within each portal that they belong to.
-
Administered by Portal Admins: Portals are primarily administered by Portal Admins (PAs), who have customizable permissions to manage users, courses, and settings within their respective portals. This approach empowers organizations to delegate administrative tasks while maintaining control over access and permissions.
-
Bulk Seat Purchases: Portals enable organizations to purchase seats in a course in bulk, rather than individually for each student. This streamlines the procurement process and allows organizations to easily manage course enrollments for their team members or employees.
There are 2 type of portal :-
Content-Based Seats : In this model, seat allocation is managed at the content level. Each Content(such as a course, learning path, or membership) has its own specific number of seats. This allocation determines how many users can be enrolled in that specific content.
- For example, if a course has 50 seats, 50 different users can be enrolled into that course.
- Once the content's seat limit is reached, no additional users can be enrolled unless the seat count is increased or existing enrollments are removed.
- This approach provides flexibility by allowing to control access limits per content item independently.
-
**Portal-Based Seats :**This model define the maximum number of Portal Learners Level that can be added to the entire portal, regardless of how much content they access.
- For example, if the portal has 200 seats, a total of 200 Portal Learners can be added in the portal at any time.
- Once the portal's user limit is reached, no new Portal Learners can be added until seats are freed up or the seat allocation is increased.
- This approach focuses on the total Portal Learners capacity for the portal rather than per content item.
-
-
Pages: Portals enable the creation of customizable pages for various sections within the project. Using pre-built blocks such as Icon, Accordion, CTA, and more, pages can be designed and managed dynamically. These pages can be reused across the platform.
-
Menus: The Menus feature allows the create and organize menus for Portal Admin and Portal Learner. Customize menus to include specific items with descriptions, icons, and links, creating tailored navigation for both portal admins and learners.
-
Single Sign On(SSO): Simplify user access with Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication options. Choose between SAML 2.0 or OAuth 2.0 to integrate secure and seamless login methods.
By leveraging Portals within an LMS, organizations can create a centralized hub for managing courses and supporting their students, while also maintaining a consistent brand identity and user experience.
Overall, Portals offer a comprehensive solution for the organizations to create customized, segregated environment within the AOM platform, allowing efficient management of users, resources, and courses. With features such as branding, sub-portals, and customizable permissions, Portals provide the flexibility and scalability to meet the diverse needs of different organizations.
